Miracle Mum Lauren shares Arlo's story.
"I fell pregnant last year with our rainbow baby Arlo. My due date was November 15th.
My cervix shortened at 29 weeks, which was very scary and I was often in and out of the birth suite. I was closely monitored from then on.
At 35 weeks, I went for my OB appointment feeling ok. My blood pressure came back high, so I was sent for bloods. When I got home, I got a call from my OB that I had preeclampsia, so my husband and I packed all our bags and went straight to the maternity ward.
I was admitted and had bloods taken again, which quickly showed my preeclampsia getting a lot worse. On the Sunday the decision was made that I needed to have a emergency c section to get Arlo out safely.
Arlo was born 35+6, and he was taken straight to the special care nursery and then rushed to another hospital to the NICU. I was very unwell myself and remember waking up shaking uncontrollably and was in the ICU. I wasn’t able to see Arlo for the first 24 hours, which was extremely heartbreaking as I was unable to meet my baby and comfort him.
Thankfully Arlo started to breathe on his own the next day and came back to the hospital I was at, and I was able to be sent to the maternity ward from ICU.
Arlo stayed in the special care nursery for 11 nights as he needed a feeding tube:
Thankfully Arlo is thriving and doing so much better. I am forever grateful for the midwives, nurses and my obstetrician for all their care”.
