Miracle mum Brittany shares Emilio's story:
My pregnancy had actually been a walk in the park up until I was around 28 weeks being told my son was weighing smaller then usual, with added (FMAU) appointments and 6 weeks till my due date I only lasted 2 appointments before I was told I had to give birth to my son that very weekend. Our little Emilio was born at 34-6 weeks gestation via caesarean section, weighing, 2010g and just 44.5cm long. Breached and legs out first. Emilio initially needed CPAP for two minutes at birth.
Emilio was doing well, tube to bottle feeding, until day 6 when I got the dreaded phone call that my son had stopped breathing. Having (Apnoeas) which required stimulation and IPPV. CPAP and caffeine was commenced, and was later that day transferred to the NICU in Liverpool hospital.
The terrifying journey begun for myself, my husband and our family.
Emilio's respiratory support was escalated to NAVA on arrival which he needed for 6 days, he was then weaned to CPAP.
It was touch and go and the scariest time of mine and my husbands life. From memory, Our son had a lumbar puncture, a series of blood tests, tube feeding, in and out of incubators, heart and breathing monitors, infections screens and antibiotics, TCM monitors high flow oxygen, low flow oxygen, ventilators.
It came time to stop respiratory support, Emilio started breathing on his own. It was a miracle our little Emilio defied the odds.
Emilio was then well enough to recover back in Campbelltown hospital special care nursery and discharged one week later.
I can not thank Liverpool hospital, NICU enough.
Without them, our boy would not be here today.
BLESSED xx
