"Our first baby was born very quick at 35 weeks after going into spontaneous labour.
A year later we found out we were expecting twins! Having had a prem baby previously and now expecting twins (a high risk pregnancy) we were told there was a high chance of giving birth early again, although we did not expect to meet them at 24 weeks! Pregnancy was a breeze, all the check ups showed the twins were growing and developing correctly, everything was perfect!
What started out as a normal Sunday nothing could prepare us for what was to happen that Sunday night. As we were getting ready for bed my waters broke, we called an ambulance and we were rushed to the closest hospital, I was administered a steroid injection to speed up the development of the babies’ lungs and given medication to help slow down labour. We were then flown to a bigger hospital that could accomodate for extreme premature babies. When we arrived at the hospital I was connected to monitors and had ultrasounds to check on the twins, they were stable and well.
My contractions didn’t seem to slow down they only became quicker and stronger, I was checked and quickly moved to theatre to have an Emergency C- section.
First born was Hudson weighing 644 grams, followed by Lyla at 696 grams our beautiful 24 weekers.
After I woke up from surgery we got to go see our beautiful babies, we didn’t know what we were having so when we found out it was a boy and a girl we were over the moon!
Our beautiful boy Hudson was with us for a day then he had an unexpected brain bleed and passed within an hour.
Lyla then went on to fight, spending 119 days in the NICU. She was on breathing support, required countless medical procedures, medications and blood transfusions.
Lyla is now a healthy one year old and we are so incredibly proud of the journey she has made. We may not have brought our two beautiful babies home but we know our Angel Hudson is here with us, watching over us from up above. He will forever live on in his sisters spirit, she has proved day after day that she has plenty and we truly believe that is all because of her brother Hudson."
