Miracle Mum, Amy, reflects on the early arrival of her son Lachlan at 35 weeks. Now into his first year at 'big school' and overcoming challenges with each year!
"Lachlan was born 4th September at 35 weeks gestation by emergency caesarean at 1.20am weighing 5 pound 12 ounces.
He was my second premmie and spent 13 days in the NICU and SCN at Nepean Hospital (NSW). He spent seven hours on CPAP as he was not breathing on his own and I was recovering from my very scary ordeal as I haemorrhaged.
This past year, five years later, has been quite a challenging year. Lachlan was diagnosed with a severe speech delay and also has been diagnosed with ADHD, hyperactive and impulsive type, and has been struggling to understand himself and why he is the way he is. These are still very much a work in progress but he has had a year of speech therapy and is starting at a fantastic school and his kindergarten teacher is amazing, so we hope for an amazing year of growth and personal achievements."
