Miracle Mum, Kylie shares Oliver's story.
"I went into have my 20 week scan and was sent straight to surgery the next day as my cervix was funnelling and I was told I had an incompetent cervix and required a stitch.
I was then on home bed rest until 24 weeks, when I presented at the hospital with lower back pain. I had started to dilated with the stitch in so they removed it and I spent the night in the birthing suite before being moved to the maternity ward where I was going to spend either hours, days, or months on bed rest.
When my waters broke on the Tuesday evening I was taken to the birthing suite; however they discovered my cervix closed to 4cm, I had cord prolapse and they couldn't find a pulse for the baby.
We were told he didn’t make it and we grieved and prepared to deliver him as a stillborn. However, one hour later I delivered him with a heartbeat and a neonatal code blue was called. He was intubated and taken to NICU and I was taken to theatre for manual removal of placenta.
His dad Chris went to NICU with him. Oliver was born at 24+4 weeks and spent 128 days in Monash Newborns before coming home on oxygen until he turned one. The early days were such a roller coaster ride.
Oliver is now four years old and turns five in April 2021. He started kindergarten on the 29 January - he has come so far. Other than some speech delay and fine and gross motor delay he is perfectly healthy!"
