The Proud Grandparents Project...
When a baby is born requiring specialised care, many feel helpless and at a loss to know what they can do for their tiny babies. Days and weeks can go by without holding your precious baby or grandchild. However, at these times when physical touch is not always possible, the simple act of reading to baby can be very beneficial to both the baby and parent, and even for grandparents.
Are you a grandparent to a premature or sick newborn wanting to give back and make a difference to other families like your own? You can help.
Launched in honour of the grandparents of our miracles, those often more removed from the situation, yet still feeling the impact and emotional rollercoaster the experience can bring, the Proud Grandparents Project:
- Extends support and information resources to grandparents of babies born premature or sick.
- Provides a storybook, for grandparents or parents to use within the NICU and beyond.
Why a storybook? Reading to babies in the NICU and beyond can:
- Promote bonding
- Reduce stress for baby
- Improve the emotional wellbeing of parents and grandparents
- Aid development
When a baby is born premature or sick, the entire family unit is impacted. The right support can significantly improve long-term outcomes for parents and children, and also improve the emotional wellbeing of grandparents and their ability to cope and support the family.
