Miracle mum Prudence shares Rose's story:
Rose was born on Good Friday 2024 at 31+5 weeks gestation, weighing just 1.4kgs.
Her arrival was long awaited after mum was the 2nd woman in Australia to undergo a uterus transplant in March 2023, after being born without a uterus. Rose was conceived via embryo transfer in September and was the 2nd baby born in Australia via uterus transplant. Her mum and dad had tried for over a decade to have a child so her arrival was very special but also a scary one.
We were told there was a chance Rose could be born from 22 weeks after a significant drop in her growth, so to make it as far as we did was a blessing.
She spent the first 3 weeks of her life in the NICU at The Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney. She was intubated at birth then quickly transitioned to CPAP, and after a few days graduated to high flow oxygen and nasogastric feeds. She was discharged with Hospital in the home care for the next 5 weeks.
She is our little miracle and a bundle of love and smiles. Everything that we have been through to bring her earth side has been completely worth it. She will grow up knowing how special she really is.
