Royal, 27 Weeks

Miracle Mum Aggie shares Royal's story:

When my husband and I found out that we were pregnant on 16/12/22, we were so happy because, we had been trying for over 2 years. Everything was going okay until we got to 19 weeks and it was discovered that I had a short cervix. Instead of 25mm, my cervix was 6mm short. I ended up having surgery to have a cerclage put in. My cervix being so short, put me at risk of having a miscarriage or going into preterm labour. We hoped that the cerclage would take me to 37 weeks at least, but unfortunately, at 27 weeks, I went into preterm labour and had to have an emergency c-section. This has been the most traumatic experience of my life. The uncertainty, fear, anger, shock, emotional trauma, and all the other emotions you feel, leave you truly hurt and broken. Royal stayed in the NICU for 63 days. I used to go to the NICU twice a day to care for her and I would stay for very long hours. It was so tough. Seeing our baby so tiny, literally the size of my hand or smaller, and attached to so many tubes, broke me to the core. And, having to leave her in the hospital when I was discharged really devastated me. I cried from the hospital, all the way home nonstop. It was very traumatising for me. We've come such a long way together. My due date was 20/08/23, Royal was delivered 24/05/23 and was discharged from the NICU after 63 days 26/07/23 without a scratch. Our miracle is such a fighter, and she's so precious. She's a very happy baby and is thriving very well. We are so excited about her future. We call her our little warrior.
