NURTURE INFORMATION HUB
Learning difficulties are a group of disorders that involve problems in relation to listening, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning and mathematical skills. A learning difficulty can be caused by a condition which affects the way a person works and processes information. Most learning difficulties are categorised as verbal or non-verbal. Adults with learning difficulties may experience different challenges through their adulthood when transitioning to more independent living study and working conditions. Employment can pose a new range of questions and challenges not encountered during childhood or adolescence.
People with learning disabilities are generally of average or above average intelligence. Disabilities are a lifelong challenge and cannot be ‘fixed’ however, with a diagnosis and additional intervention and support, adults can still gain support as needed.
